Extermination for PlayStation 2 is a third-person survival horror action game set in an isolated Antarctic research facility.
Players step into the role of U.S. Marine Recon Sergeant Dennis Riley, deployed with a special forces team to investigate a distress signal from a remote military base in Antarctica. Upon arrival, the team discovers the facility has been overrun by a rapidly mutating organism that transforms living hosts and the surrounding environment.
Extermination combines third-person exploration with tactical shooting and resource management. Players use the customizable SPR4 rifle, fitting it with various attachments and ammunition types found throughout the base. Survival also requires monitoring both health and an infection gauge, curing exposure at medical stations, and maintaining battery power to operate facility equipment.
The mission focuses on surviving the outbreak and uncovering the truth behind the Antarctic facility.
