The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for PlayStation 2 is a beat 'em up action game based on the first two films of the movie trilogy.
Controlling Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli, players fight against the forces of the Dark Lord Sauron to protect the Ring of Power and restore peace to Middle-earth. Story progression is presented through cutscenes that combine film footage with sequences rendered in the game engine, covering locations from Weathertop and the Mines of Moria to the plains of Rohan and the defense of Helm's Deep.
Players battle through levels filled with Orcs, Goblins, Uruk-hai, and bosses such as Lurtz and the Watcher in the Water. Using varied attacks and parrying moves while avoiding damage rewards higher points for each kill. Accumulated points at the end of levels can be spent to unlock character-specific combinations, health increases, and attack upgrades. Completing missions and reaching certain character levels also unlocks bonus interviews and making-of features.
