Final Fantasy II for the PlayStation Portable is the PSP remake of the classic role-playing game, released in the PAL Essentials edition.
Four young orphans from the kingdom of Fynn—Firion, Maria, Guy, and Leon—are separated when the military forces of the Palamecian Empire invade their homeland. Taken in by the rebel resistance led by Princess Hilda, the heroes join the fight to stop the Emperor's campaign of conquest across the world.
Instead of traditional experience levels, Final Fantasy II uses an activity-based progression system in which character attributes, weapon proficiency, and magic spells grow stronger based on how they are used in turn-based battles. Players also learn and memorize key terms during conversations with non-player characters to unlock new dialogue topics and advance the story. The PSP release features updated 2D visuals and the bonus Soul of Rebirth post-game dungeon and arcane labyrinth content.
