Are Nintendo Switch games compatible with Switch 2?
Nintendo Switch 2 can play many physical and digital games released for the original Nintendo Switch. That does not mean every game is compatible: some titles are unsupported or not fully compatible. Check Nintendo's current information for the specific game before buying or transferring your library.
Physical collections
Compatible original Switch game cards can be used on Switch 2. The condition and completeness of an individual copy still matter to collectors, but compatibility depends on the game and its requirements. Do not assume every title works identically: a game may need an update or a particular controller.

Digital games and save data
When moving purchases and save data, follow Nintendo's current instructions for accounts, virtual game cards and system transfers. Terms of use and availability can depend on the game and account. Some games have free updates or paid upgrades to a Switch 2 Edition; the changes vary by title.
Controllers and accessories
Many original Switch accessories work with the new console, but there are exceptions. Original Joy-Con controllers can connect wirelessly to Switch 2, but cannot be charged on the new console itself. Check accessory compatibility and the game's requirements before buying.
Compatibility may change with updates. Check the specific game and edition in Nintendo's current information instead of assuming that an entire collection works without limitations.
