Story:

In 2007, a group of unknown terrorists attack global landmarks, targeting the G8 Summit in Switzerland and a Venezuelan oil refinery in the Caribbean. Their demands aim to disrupt the oil trade between the US and Venezuela. Enter Team Rainbow, an elite counter-terrorism unit, tasked with stopping the terrorists and uncovering the mastermind behind the attacks.

Gameplay:

Rainbow Six 3 is an action-focused console adaptation of the long-running tactical shooter series. It offers 14 single-player missions (15 on PS2 and GameCube). In each mission, you control Domingo "Ding" Chavez, commanding a team of three other Rainbow operatives.

Mission objectives vary from eliminating terrorists and disarming bombs to rescuing hostages. Your team members will act autonomously, but you can issue specific commands using a context-sensitive menu: hold position, advance, clear a room, or disarm a bomb. You can also set delayed commands that are executed when you give a special signal. The Xbox version features voice recognition, allowing you to issue team commands with a headset.

Before each mission, you must equip each team member with primary and secondary weapons and additional gear. Over 20 realistic firearms are available, as well as grenades (thrown or launched from a grenade launcher), breaching charges, and mines. Night vision and thermal vision are always available without the need for special equipment.

Despite its action focus, the game maintains some realism: there is no running or jumping, a few shots can be fatal, and there is no health regeneration.

In addition to the single-player campaign, there's also a Custom Mission mode that lets you engage in terrorist hunts on unlocked maps from the campaign.

• Sharpshooter mode: Timed deathmatch with respawning, highest number of kills wins
• Survival mode: No respawning, last player standing wins

Multiplayer features vary by platform: GameCube lacks competitive modes, PS2 supports only six players online instead of Xbox's sixteen, and both co-op modes are split-screen only on PS2 and GameCube.
