Players command a squad of heavily armed worms across fully three-dimensional battlefields. The single-player story mode follows Professor Worminkle and a time machine that takes the team through historical eras such as the Middle Ages, the Wild West, and Prehistoric times. Gameplay revolves around strategic positioning, aiming ranged and explosive weapons, and using terrain destruction to eliminate rival teams. Worms 4: Mayhem also introduces a Weapons Factory for creating custom armaments and extensive team customisation options.
