Imported retro consoles: check the power supply and voltage
A console bought in another country may require a different power supply from the one available at home. Before connecting it, check the requirements for the exact console and power supply. An incompatible voltage can damage equipment and create a hazard.
Check the label
Find the input voltage and frequency on the power supply or console, as appropriate for the model. If the label is missing or unreadable, or you are unsure which component to check, consult the manual for the exact model or ask the manufacturer or a qualified technician. Do not connect the device until compatibility is confirmed.
A plug adapter is not a transformer
A plug adapter changes how the plug fits the socket. It does not convert voltage or frequency. It cannot make a power supply rated only for a different voltage compatible with the local mains.

A step-down transformer lowers voltage; a step-up transformer raises it. For example, a 230 V supply and a power supply rated only for 100 V require a suitable way to lower the voltage, not raise it. The device must suit the equipment, input and output voltages, required power and mains frequency. Not all converters are suitable for electronic equipment; ask the manufacturer or a qualified technician if unsure.
Use a compatible power supply
Some power supplies accept a wide input range, but check the rating on the specific unit rather than assuming this. For a replacement external supply, the output voltage and type, available current, polarity and connector must also match the console's requirements. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and do not use equipment whose compatibility you cannot confirm.
Frequency and game regions
Check that the mains frequency is within the power supply's rating. Game regions and video standards are separate issues: a region-free modification does not correct an incompatible power supply.
Before powering on
Check the console model, power supply, mains specifications and manufacturer's instructions. If anything is unclear, seek qualified help before connecting the equipment.
